The announcement of Editor H P ("Pres") Deaton that he has sold his paper, the Mooresville Enterprise, beautifully illustrates the .devotion of an ambitious young man to his aged Mother. The writer risks the viola tion of a confidence as he had it from Mr Deaton himself nearly a year ago. Mr, WF Barlow, a prominent cit izen of Wilkes county and a former county commissioner, has a card in the Chronicle of yesterday in which he comes out for Mr Hackett, the Democratic nominee for Congress. Mr Barlow states that he is a Repub lican from principle and expects to re main so all his life, but that for once he will step aside and vote far a Dem ocrat and that one will be Hon. R N Hackett, who is opposing Blackburn in this district. Mr Barlow says his reasons are that he considers Black burn unworthy of the honor, that he has fooled the people, that he is a resiJent of another district, that he did not vote for a single Republican from president down two years ago and that he has abused and vilified every Re publican leader in the State who would not do his will. He further declares that Blackburn has introduced methods into conventions that are un fair, dishonest and untruthful. He has run conventions by force and fnud and sold nominations to the highest bidder. The?e and other reasons are given why Mr Birlow will vote and work for Hatkett, and ask other Republicans to do the same thing He speaks in high terms of praise for Hackett in contrast with Blackburn, and says his character is stainless, hi honor untar nished, and that no man can say a word against him. A prominent and well informed cit izen of the state has said to the Tri bune that he has seen Blackburn re cently and that he seems hacked, that at Greensboro his friends look blue, and all but concede his defeat. The Tribune is Right The Concord Tribune is opposed to the suggestion that a law be passed changing the day for the opening of courts from Monday to Tuesday, sole ly for the convenience of the judges. The Tribune is right. According to our notion what is needed is a law that will reach the tardy judge as cer tainly and as inexorably as the judge will reach the tardy juror or witness. There is no reason why the judge should be favored over the "lower classes." Charlotte Chronicle. A good-hearted man carries part of it in his pocket bock.
